Mysidewaysmind

I am a non-binary multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the fluid nature of personal identity, queerness in its abstraction, and their intersections with mental health. My practice incorporates painting, drawing, book-making, installation, and sculptural approaches that reflect the rhythmic spiral of spirit and self-discovery. Themes surrounding gender, politics, and religion are shaped by my upbringing in a Christian family of eight, with a Latina mother and a conservative white father. I am inspired by the ocean where I grew up and the elemental wear of the materials we live among; the corrosion of metals, rocks, woods, and the pillowy textures of nature.
